Richard Anthony case study – Terry Lewis – Jaques Samuel Pianos
Widely considered to be London’s leading piano retailer, Jaques Samuel Pianos has grown considerably from its humble beginnings in the front room of Mr Samuel’s home in Notting Hill.
They are now internationally recognised and have provided pianos for high-profile clients like Queen and The Beatles, as well as venues and events like Glastonbury, the Barbican, and Wigmore Hall.
Terry Lewis took over as Managing Director of Jaques Samuel Pianos in 1996. He oversaw the modernisation, refurbishment, and rapid growth of the business, including the construction of an additional sixteen practice rooms by 2018. Under Terry’s leadership, the business was also awarded ‘Music Retailer of the Year.’
He is currently overseeing expansion into a new shop premises and a concert hall in London.
Like any successful business, Jaques Samuel Pianos needs a trusted accountant, which is why the company looked to Richard Anthony Chartered Accountant to support them.
Having engaged the firm around six years ago, Terry said that he would recommend Richard Anthony’s services to other businesses.
“We moved payroll and bookkeeping to Richard Anthony which came with a more modernised system. By implementing these systems successfully, they have helped the business dramatically.
“We have followed their tax advice quite a lot during our time with them. Especially when we were setting up a new building project and needed specific advice on complex tax law related to this project. In fact, their guidance has been so effective that we will be seeking advice from them again soon when dealing with our new concert hall.”
Whilst a complex issue, Terry said Richard Anthony took away a lot of the stress associated with business and property taxes.
“They have specialists in that area, who can get into the real nitty gritty aspects of tax law that we simply wouldn’t be able to do. It is handy to have them along with us during our various endeavours.
“I am very happy with the support they have given us in expanding our business to other locations as they were once again particularly helpful with the tax implications of such a move.”
Richard Anthony’s speed and accuracy when responding to clients was something that Terry particularly appreciated.
“I would recommend Richard Anthony’s services because they are small enough to give you independent care, on a face-to-face level, but large enough to deal with business needs such as ours.”
He added: “They are always available and if they miss a call they always ring back straight away. They do what they say they are going to do, and they are fantastic at replying to emails.”
As a testament to the service Richard Anthony delivers, Terry doesn’t see the relationship between the two companies altering in the future and he fully intends to use their vital tax and accounting insights to support the continued growth of his business.
“I don’t see any changes coming in our relationship. We are very happy with the support they have given us as our business has grown.”
